Whitford were engaged in purchasing new premises for their 10 year expansion plan, and act3 were appointed to advise on and co-ordinate various aspects of the planned site-wide works.
The Client acted as Principle Contractor and procured the works as a Construction Management project, with a range of sub-contractors being engaged by them under direct order.
One exception to this was the requirement for a new 2,000ft two storey Link Building between the Admin Offices and the Production Facility, which was procured by tender under a JCT form of building contract, to contain new Production Management offices and ground floor Café facility.
The existing office building was stripped out and fully re-fitted, with new open plan and cellular office arrangements, and access routes provided to the adjacent Production Facility through the new 2,000 sqft Link.
Within the Production Facility, a new 10,000ft mezzanine was created to contain Labs, Testing, Lab Offices, Welfare and Team Meeting Areas. This was constructed with 1hr fire separation from the main production area. Production plant was installed using a mix of new and reliable pre-existing machinery, with site wide installations of supporting electrical, mechanical extract, filtration, fresh air, cooling, pneumatics, chilled water, storage tanks, by specialist contractors working throughout the site.
Work began in March 2012, with completion being achieved on programme at the end of July.
